Whitney Houston's sister-in-law fights tears during emotional Oprah interview
Whitney Houston's sister-in-law and Oprah Winfrey both teared up during an emotional interview about the tragic singer, which aired on Sunday night (11Mar12) - the one-month anniversary of the superstar's passing.
Patricia Houston, who was the Saving All My Love For You singer's manager and confidante, agreed to sit down and talk with Winfrey Houston about the events surrounding the star's death in a bathtub in her Los Angeles hotel room last month (Feb12).
Twice halting the taped TV chat to compose herself as tears ran
down her face, Patricia, who is married to Houston's brother Gary,
revealed she was heading to her sister-in-law's suite after
receiving two phone calls from her when she heard screams.
Patricia recalled, "I saw the hairstylist drop to her knees and I
kept walking very slow. A woman opened her door and said, 'Is
everything alright?' I said, 'Call 911...!' I knew something was
wrong... I was just numb.
"When I got in the room, I saw my brother, Ray..., trying to revive
her (Houston) to the point of exhaustion... I said, 'Ray, let it
go...' He said, 'I tried'. He was so outta breath. I felt so badly
for him.
"Then I see her. She had a peacefulness... on her face... She was
on the floor. I don't know how she got there (bathtub)... They had
to pull her out of there... and when Ray left the room, they were
asking me to leave; I couldn't... I just couldn't do it... I just
couldn't leave her... and I saw them cover her up and I knew that
that was it... I could not believe it."
Oprah and Patricia weren't the only ones in tears during the TV
special - Houston's brother Gary broke down while performing his
sister's hit I Look To You with his daughter around the piano at
the family home.
The Oprah Winfrey special also featured a brief interview with
Houston's teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina, who has been spending
time with her aunt and uncle in Georgia ever since the tragedy.
