Comedienne Tina Fey fired her composer husband Jeff Richmond as her vocal coach as she prepared to audition for Into The Woods.

The 30 Rock star landed an audition to play the Baker's Wife in the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's beloved musical, and a nervous Fey called upon her musician husband to brush up on her singing skills.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, host of SiriusXM's On Broadway program Seth Rudetsky revealed that Fey recruited him as a coach only after Richmond turned her down.

Rudetsky recalls, "I get a phone call from Tina Fey, saying 'Can you coach me for my audition for Into the Woods?' So I'm like, 'Your husband's a piano player, why isn't he coaching you?'

"She said, 'He was.' She sang for about one minute and he immediately said, 'Are you going to sing it like that?' She said, 'You're fired.' She would have been brilliant."

The role of the Baker's Wife eventually went to Emily Blunt.
