Lupita Nyong'o's Oscars dress, which was reported missing from a West Hollywood hotel suite on Wednesday (25Feb15), has been recovered by police.

The pearl Calvin Klein gown was returned to The London West Hollywood on Friday afternoon (27Feb15) and the thief alerted news website TMZ.com to its whereabouts.

Editors tipped off police and the authorities have confirmed they found a garment bag with the dress inside.

The thief reportedly told TMZ staff he had taken the dress from Oscar winner Nyongo's hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar, but after learning the item was worthless on the black market, he decided to take it back to the hotel and left it in a public restroom.

Lieutenant William Nash of the sheriff’s West Hollywood station has confirmed the dress Nyong'o helped design has been recovered. It has been valued at $150,000 .
