Tegan and Sara dominate Juno Awards

Sibling duo Tegan And Sara were the toast of their native Canada on Sunday (30Mar14) as they led the country's Juno Awards.

It was a big night for the twin sisters in Winnipeg as they took home three prizes during the ceremony at the MTS Center.

The duo earned Group of the Year, Pop Album of the Year for Heartthrob, and Single of the Year for Closer, which they also performed during the prizegiving.

Following their Single of the Year win, the singers took to Twitter.com to post a photo of themselves backstage looking shocked at their success, writing, "That is the look of two very shaky happy people! Single of the year! Holy s**t!"

Indie rocker Serena Ryder, who co-hosted the show with Michael Buble, also had a huge night, going home as Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

Other winners included Arcade Fire, who won Album Of The Year and Alternative Album of the Year for Reflektor, Bruno Mars nabbed the International Album of the Year prize for Unorthodox Jukebox, and Toronto native Drake took home the Rap Recording of the Year accolade for Nothing Was The Same.

Troubled pop star Justin Bieber was honored with the Juno Fan Choice Award, marking the fourth year in a row he has won the prize, but he was not on hand to accept the award. The 20 year old's win was decidedly unpopular with the audience, as the crowd booed his victory during the live show.

Also during the ceremony, Winnipeg-bred band Bachman-Turner Overdrive were inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and some of their famous friends including Metallica and Sir Elton John saluted the rockers via video message. The band then took to the stage to sing their hit tune, Takin' Care of Business, as musicians Matt Mays, Tim Hicks, The Sadies and the Sheepdogs joined them for a show-closing tribute performance.
