Stars send well wishes to Sam Smith ahead of operation

Musicians Hayley Williams and Josh Groban have sent well wishes to Sam Smith after the British singer confessed his anxiety about his throat operation on Thursday (14May15).

The Stay With Me hitmaker scrapped a series of tour dates, including concerts in Australia and Japan, and flew to the US for surgery after he developed a vocal cord haemorrhage.

On Wednesday (13May15), Smith, who has been joined in America by his mother ahead of the procedure, shared his fears about going under the knife and the upcoming weeks of being unable to speak, which will put a damper on plans to celebrate his 23rd birthday on Tuesday (19May15).

He wrote on Instagram.com, "Enjoying my last day of speaking. After today no speaking for three weeks. So if you see me on the streets sorry if you think I'm a d**khead and can't say hello. Also gonna be silent for my birthday. Sounds fun aye?"

He later shared on Twitter.com, "Can't sleep. Op (operation) tomorrow. Looking through all your beautiful messages. Makes me emotional to know I have so many people wishing me well."

A number of fellow musicians have since sent him messages of support, including Paramore frontwoman Williams who writes, "Totally get how real/scary voice stuff is. Will be prayin for you & for the docs (sic). Love that voice" and Groban posted, "As a fellow singer and fan, wishing you a speedy recovery and pristine pipes for decades to come."

On Thursday morning (14May15), Smith took a 'selfie' from his hospital bed before the surgery.
