Stars come out for theatre fundraiser

Stars including Lady Gaga and Samuel L. Jackson headed to the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on Sunday (22Mar15) to applaud Sir Elton John as he was honoured for his theatre work.

The Bad Romance hitmaker kicked off the benefit by performing her hit You and I at the Backstage at the Geffen event.

She later joined Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish as they were honoured with the Distinction in Theatre Award for their work for the stage. She posed for pictures with her good friends backstage in a revealing red-sequinned jumpsuit.

Gaga wrote on Instagram.com, "At Geffen's Playhouse. Honouring Elton & David for a Distinction in Theatre (sic). What a wonderful place this playhouse is, giving the possibility of 'magic,' as Elton says it, by making theatre available to more people, so no one is left behind."

Star Wars director George Lucas was also honoured at the Los Angeles gala, which raised funds for the not-for-profit Geffen Playhouse theatre.

Other attendees included Samuel L. Jackson, Anna Kendrick, Anjelica Huston and J.J. Abrams.
