Sophia Bush's boyfriend safe after mountain climbing scare

Actress Sophia Bush is thankful her boyfriend is safe and well after learning he narrowly avoiding the deadly Mount Everest avalanche last week (ends20Apr14).

The former One Tree Hill star reveals Google programmer Dan Fredinburg has been hiking in the Himalayas for the past month and he had just passed through the area where disaster struck last Friday (18Apr14).

The high-altitude avalanche killed 12 Sherpa guides and left three others seriously injured in what officials have deemed the single deadliest accident on Everest, and Bush is relieved her boyfriend of more than a year is fine.

She tells Eonline.com, "The climbing team is OK. It was obviously really scary for all of us who love him and love everyone on the trip. They had just passed the icefalls where the avalanche happened a few hours before.

"It's a tight community - the climbers and the Sherpas. To know that so many people were lost is devastating to everyone. How do you quantify or qualify that?"
