Solange Knowles funded new album herself

Singer Solange Knowles was forced to self-fund her new album after parting ways with her record label.

Beyonce's little sister is set to release True through Terrible Records on 27 November (12) and the star reveals she relied on her musician friends and her own cash to complete the project after falling out with bosses at Interscope Records over the failure of her 2008 album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams.

She tells New York Magazine, "I made my entire record on my own from top to bottom. Everything from studio-equipment rentals to actually creating a studio... The entire album has been about me calling my friends, like, 'Will you make a video with me?' 'OK, cool. Let's do it.'"

And the 26 year old kept the budget tight - even using her own chairs at her New York City listening party on 24 October (12).

She adds, "(They came) from my house because I didn't want to pay to rent them."
