Singer Charice Pempengco changes name to Jake Zyrus

Transgender singer and actor Charice Pempengco has changed his name to Jake Zyrus.

The former Glee star previously told U.S. TV mogul Oprah Winfrey his "soul is, like, male (sic)" and now he has changed his name to match.

"My first tweet as Jake," he wrote on Twitter on Monday (19Jun17). "Overwhelmed. Saw all your love comments and I'm so happy. Finally. I love you, everyone and see you soon."

"forever grateful," he added. "let's just love one another. i love you all (sic). I really do..."

In 2013, Zyrus came out as a lesbian, but denied he was undergoing a gender transition.

"Not exactly transitioning to a male, but basically my soul is, like, male," Zyrus said on Winfrey's Where Are They Now? in 2014. "But I'm not going to go through that stage where I'm going to change everything - not change my body. I would change, like, this look: Cut my hair and wear boy clothes and everything, but that's all."
