Sia: 'Rihanna's new album is not yet finished'
Rihanna is still looking for songs to complete her long-awaited new album, according to singer/songwriter Sia.
The Umbrella star has been teasing fans about her eighth studio project, Anti, for months and she launched her ANTIDiary.com website, in support of her forthcoming music, in late November (15), prompting reports suggesting she was gearing up for a surprise release.
She even recently announced plans for the Anti World Tour with her
rumored boyfriend, rapper Travis Scott, with the live shows due to
kick off in San Diego, California in February (16) - but her Anti
album has still yet to appear or be given an official release
date.
Now Sia, who penned the R&B beauty's 2012 hit Diamonds, has
revealed Rihanna is still working on the project as she recently
met with the Chandelier star to find additional material to
record.
"The other night she came over and listened to half of 25 songs I
played her because she's still looking for songs for her new
album," Sia explained during an appearance on Britain's BBC Radio 2
over the weekend (12-13Dec15).
"She was there to listen to songs and see if there was anything
that she was into," Sia continued. "It was a business meeting for
sure. She took four (songs), but I don't know if they'll end up (on
the album)."
The news emerges weeks after Rihanna was reported to have rejected
a song Sia co-wrote with soul superstar Adele, so the Australian
musician decided to use Alive on her own upcoming disc, titled This
Is Acting.
"We wrote three songs in two days and none of them made the cut and
this was one of them," Sia told radio host Ryan Seacrest last month
(Nov15). "I said to (Adele), 'Do you mind if I pitch it to, say,
Rihanna?' And she said, 'Yeah, but can you take my vocal off it
because I don't want my vocal floating around out there on a
demo'.
"So I went and re-cut the vocal and everybody in my life was like,
'You can't give this away to anybody'... I believe she (Rihanna)
did (consider the song) and she passed. We sent it to her, but it's
not really her so I don't know why I thought that. It is a smash,
but she's a little more edgy."
