Shia LaBeouf won't appear in new Indiana Jones film
Shia Labeouf is not reprising his role in the new Indiana Jones film.
Harrison Ford is returning as the archaeologist, but screenwriter David Koepp reveals the Transformers star will not appear as Jones' son Mutt Williams, the character he played in 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
"Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say," Koepp tells Entertainment Weekly. "And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film."
Koepp explains the script is mostly finished, but they are waiting for director Steven Spielberg's schedule to open up before they can secure a shooting schedule and release date.
"We're plugging away at it," he continues. "In terms of when we would start, I think that's up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford... I know we've got a script we're mostly happy with. Work will be endless, of course, and ongoing, and Steven just finished shooting The Post... If the stars align, hopefully it'll be his next film."
LaBeouf was previously critical of his experience making the 2008 movie, insisting working with Spielberg was not what he thought it was going to be.
"You get there, and you realize you're not meeting the Spielberg you dream of," LaBeouf told Variety. "You're meeting a different Spielberg, who is in a different stage in his career. He's less a director than he is a f**king company."
It's not the first time LaBeouf has been critical of the Academy Award winner.
In a 2010 interview he criticized Spielberg for "dropping the ball" on their Indiana Jones movie. He later apologized.
