Shakira sued by ex-boyfriend
Pop star Shakira is facing a $100 million lawsuit from her ex-boyfriend over allegations their business partnership went bad after their relationship came to an end.
The Colombian singer ended her romance with Antonio de la Rua in 2010 after more than 10 years as a couple, but in a public statement, they vowed to remain friends and continue as business partners.
However, the friendship now appears to have turned sour as de la
Rua has filed a lawsuit in New York accusing his ex-girlfriend of
breaking a promise to continue paying him a share of her business
profits.
De la Rua, son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua,
has filed legal documents at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York
City, claiming the singer asked him to take over "the business
behind the Shakira brand" and he went on to secure her a $300
million deal with tour promoters Live Nation.
He claims their business partnership continued for a year after
their romantic relationship broke down, but he was fired in 2011,
according to the New York Post.
De la Rua is demanding $100 million from his former lover.
Shakira is now dating Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique and the
couple recently announced they are expecting a baby together.
