Actor Seth Rogen has officially signed on to adapt cult comic book series Preacher for TV.

The Pineapple Express star and his producing partner Evan Goldberg will team up with Breaking Bad co-writer/producer Sam Catlin to develop the project, which will air on the AMC network - the home of another comic book adaptation, The Walking Dead.

A statement released by Rogen and Goldberg reads: "This is amazing! We've tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we're so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we're going to do everything we can to do it right."

Casting details have yet to be released.

Preacher, about a tough Texan reverend who loses his faith, was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and gained a cult following upon its release in the mid-1990s. Its final monthly issue, number 66, was published in August, 2000.

Rogen is no stranger to the comic book world - he played the lead in 2011 movie adaptation The Green Hornet.
