Seth Rogen and TV comedian Jimmy Kimmel have filmed a spoof of hit TV drama True Detective as part of a joke campaign to secure themselves roles in the second season of the show.

The tense cop drama, starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, wrapped up on Sunday night (09Mar14) in America, and now fans are waiting to hear who will replace the two stars in the second season.

Debuting his True Detective skit on his late-night show on Monday (10Mar14), Kimmel said, "Next season will follow two completely different detectives on a different case. There's been much speculation about which actors will be tapped to play those roles. I'm excited to announce... the identities of those actors.... We have (an) exclusive sneak preview..."

The trailer featured Rogen and Kimmel looking back over their careers as working partners with characters loosely based on Harrelson's and McConaughey's.

Rogen, who played the unruly detective with a hardcore drug past, asked an interrogator, "Have you ever seen a baby kill its own mother with a breakfast taco? Well, I f**king have. And it f**ked me up!"

In a flashback scene, the pair drives around the streets of Austin, Texas as Rogen quotes the lyrics of Cher and Cyndi Lauper tunes, pretending they are "deep life lessons".

The partners also scrap at a crime scene and Rogen starts dry humping Kimmel while pinning him face down on the ground.
