Selena Gomez: 'Music needs some female sexism!'

Selena Gomez is proud to be part of "female sexism" in the music industry.

The 23-year-old singer is close friends with Taylor Swift and considers herself one of the "original" members of the singer's now infamous girl squad. As she appeared on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke segment on Monday night (20Jun16), the chat show host accused the group of being sexist by not allowing any men to be involved.

But Selena insisted it's rare for it to be men that are discriminated against in the show business world, as she has frequently found herself a victim due to her gender during her time in the spotlight.

"I think this industry could use a little bit of female sexism," Selena insisted. "I think we have a right to be that way. It’s a lot harder doing what I have to do, I think so."

When James asked if that means no man will ever be allowed to join the squad, Selena replied: "Oh I don't know! Find me a boyfriend and then we’ll talk about it."

The host then questioned Selena as to whether finding romance is something she's interested in, to which the singer admitted she's open to the idea but isn't looking for anything serious.

"I like to have fun!" she told James with a cheeky smile.

Selena has never been one to stick to the rule book, and continued to show her rebellious side as she directed James on a detour to a local theme park where they rode on a rollercoaster while singing along to her track Come & Get It.

Back in the car, the pair sang along to some of Selena's other famous tracks, such as Love You Like A Love Song and her recent hit Hands to Myself.

Asked when she felt like she had "made it" in the music industry, Selena replied: "I feel like when you’re able to be a little bit made fun of - I feel like that’s when I’d (made it).

"You know when people are like, 'Hey, Selena, can’t keep your hands to yourself! Hahaha.'"
