Scarlett Johansson: "It's irresponsible to involve actors in Woody Allen controversy"

Actress Scarlett Johansson has called out critics for asking actors about director Woody Allen's sex abuse allegations, citing it "irresponsible" to come to a conclusion based on "guesswork".

In February (14), the Annie Hall filmmaker's adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, repeated claims she first made in 1992, suggesting Allen sexually abused her when she was seven years old.

The filmmaker has repeatedly denied the allegations, and Johansson, who has worked with Allen on three of his movies, refuses to give her thoughts on a subject she knows nothing about.

In an interview with British newspaper The Guardian, she insists, "I think it's irresponsible to take a bunch of actors that will have a Google alert on and to suddenly throw their name into a situation that none of us could possibly knowingly comment on. That just feels irresponsible to me."

When asked about the backlash from the controversy, The Avengers star admits she was unaware of it, adding, "I think he'll continue to know what he knows about the situation, and I'm sure the other people involved have their own experience with it.

"It's not like this is somebody that's been prosecuted and found guilty of something, and you can then go, 'I don't support this lifestyle or whatever.' I mean, it's all guesswork."
