Samantha Barks 'drowns' herself for new PETA campaign
Les Miserables star Samantha Barks has 'drowned' herself in the name of animal rights to urge fans not to eat fish.
The British actress has teamed up with officials at peta2, the youth division of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), for the new campaign, which saw Banks strip down and plunge herself into a tank of cold water to pose for the ad.
The Imagine Not Being Able to Breathe ad aims to educate people
about how fish suffocate when taken out of water, and features the
tagline, "Please Try to Relate, and Keep Fish off Your Plate".
PETA Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg says,
"All animals have the same capacity to suffer, and fish are no
exception. As the public learns more about the capabilities, social
bonds, and intelligence of fish and other aquatic animals, most
caring people will feel more inclined to leave them off their
plates."
Barks is the latest star to join forces with peta2 to encourage
fans to adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet - Alicia Silverstone,
Joaquin Phoenix and Zendaya Coleman have also previously taken part
in similar campaigns.
