Salma Hayek feared sexy Susan Sarandon snap would put off Pope
Salma Hayek was scared her meeting with Pope Francis would be ruined by a revealing snap she took with Susan Sarandon.
The 49-year-old actress received a medal from the pontiff at a ceremony at the Vatican on Sunday (29May16) for her work promoting his Scholas Occurrentes initiative.
However the Frida star was concerned that the religious leader
would reconsider his decision to honor her alongside fellow stars
George Clooney and Richard Gere due to a saucy photograph she
posted on Instagram.
The photograph, taken at the Cannes Film Festival last month
(May16), shows Salma and fellow actress Susan in low cut tops
admiring each others' breasts.
The star captioned the picture, "Salma: 'Susan, you are bigger than
me!' Susan Sarandon: 'Of course I am...'"
Salma tells U.K. chat show host Graham Norton, "I was very honored
and excited to be receiving a medal from him but I was really
nervous because I had just posted an Instagram of me staring at
Susan Sarandon's boobs and I was so afraid he would see that
picture and take away my medal!"
Although Pope Francis does have an official Instagram account, the
leader of the Catholic Church does not follow anyone on the photo
sharing site.
Despite Salma's risque image sharing habits, the meeting and awards
ceremony went ahead as planned and afterward she posted a picture
of herself with her husband François-Henri Pinault and the Pope
kissing her daughter Valentina, which she captioned, "I can not
love him more."
Salma has agreed to be an ambassador for the Scholas Occurrentes
organization, which was founded by the pontiff in 2013 to promote
peace and understanding through the use of technology and arts
education.
She will front an arts project for the non-profit organization,
which links up more than 400,000 pupils from 82 countries.
