Ryan Reynolds re-enacted singing scene to smuggle food
Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively smuggled illicit food across the Canadian border after the actor entertained a customs officer with the hilarious song from his movie Just Friends.
The Hollywood supercouple was traveling back from visiting Ryan's family in his native Vancouver when they were stopped at the border because they were carrying a box of apple pies.
The item potentially contravened border controls on importing fruit
and vegetables, but Ryan and Blake were astonished when an official
asked the actor to re-enact his bizarre rendition of I Swear from
the 2005 comedy.
Ryan coyly admits he agreed to an impromptu performance of the
skit, and was amazed when the officer then waved the couple through
the checkpoint with their pies.
He tells U.K. talk show host Graham Norton, "My wife is a foodie
and loves these apple pies they make in Vancouver where I grew up
so we grabbed a bunch of them and we were heading back down to the
States and across the border, and you are not allowed to take fruit
and vegetables across.
"The guard knew something was going on as I've the worst poker face
ever and he had me on a hook. He said, 'You remember you did that
movie Just Friends and at the end you sang I Swear?' I said, 'Yes,'
and he said, 'Go ahead.' He was saying dance monkey and I danced! I
sang that thing in the best falsetto I had and I was on my way
through the border eating pie by the next stop."
Ryan and Blake wed in 2012 after two years of dating, and they have
a daughter, James. The Green Lantern star was previously married to
Scarlett Johansson and was engaged to Alanis Morissette.
