Ruby Rose: 'I've received the kiss of death'

Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose fears being dubbed an 'It girl' will destroy her career.

The 30-year-old Australian actress is landing numerous coveted roles right now, including a huge part in upcoming action sequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, and she has also amassed millions of followers on social media accounts in just a few months.

But as her star rises rapidly, Rose finds herself feeling increasingly uncomfortable about her new found fame.

"The funny thing about being called an 'It girl' is, well, it's the kiss of death," she tells Galore magazine. "You know what I mean? It's like being 'in'. Anything that's 'in fashion' ultimately goes out of fashion."

Another concern Rose, who is a member of singer Taylor Swift's legendary 'girl squad', has over being a celebrity pertains to physical and mental health - she does not want to become full of herself.

"It's also not healthy to base your personal success or happiness on external things, like fame, attention, opinion, or money," she explains. "The less you let that define you the better. Let your passion and work speak for you. As long as you are happy with it, that's all that should matter."

Despite her reservations about being a household name, Rose, who has been an open lesbian since the age of 12, is starting to find certain aspects of fame extremely hilarious, particularly the way some straight female fans react to her gorgeous looks.

"When people say to me that I turned them gay, I just laugh, because that's not really even a possibility," she chuckles. "I just think that, as human beings, we are drawn to what we can't have. We are drawn to fantasy over reality, and often are in love with an idea of a situation rather than the reality of it. I think people like the idea of 'turning gay for someone,' but it's not actually that simple. Ultimately, that statement is just a form of endearment or a compliment, but it's not real."
