Rita Ora cancels New York show in wake of storm
British singer Rita Ora has cancelled her Tuesday night (30Oct12) concert in New York as the city deals with the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.
The R.I.P. hitmaker was tracking the hurricane, which was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, as it approached the Big Apple on Monday night (29Oct12) over fears her gig at the Highline Ballroom would be scrapped.
As the severe weather closed in, she wrote on her Twitter.com page,
"My show is still on as of now but I will find out for definite
tomorrow (Tuesday). I'm fighting for it to go on! If u can make it
then I can perform! I'm praying!!! F**k I hate STORMS! Why on our
day! I don't want to risk any of my fans being hurt but if you guys
still want a show I will give you a show! A good one too!"
Storms and high winds lashed the East Coast overnight on Monday,
leaving millions of residents without power - and on Tuesday
morning, Ora told fans her concert was off.
She declared, "NOOOOOOOO!!!! Tonights show in NYC has had to be
postponed... sandy may have won today, but us (sic) ritabots will
conquer the future."
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, The xx, Grimes, Cat Power,
Ghostface Killah, Rufus Wainwright and Journey are among the acts
who have also scrapped or postponed gigs due to the bad
weather.
