Rita Ora: 'Calvin Harris didn't delay my album'

Rita Ora insists her DJ ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris did not delay the release of her second album because the record was nowhere near complete when they split.

The R.I.P. hitmaker broke up with the Scottish DJ last year (14) after they had worked on four tracks together, including her 2014 single I Will Never Let You Down.

Harris blocked her using those tracks, and it reportedly forced her to delay the follow-up to her 2012 debut album Ora, but the singer insists a record was not in the works at that time and the delay was mostly down to her busy schedule and mood following the split.

She tells British Glamour magazine, "I have to be very clear - there was never a record. There were about four tracks that were building into a record. But it was never like, 'OK, we're ready to go'. I Will Never Let You Down came out 'cause I wanted to put it out there and then 'cause that's how I felt at that point in my life. I was like, 'F**k it, let's just do it...' I was not thinking, 'Well, what are you going to follow it up with, Rita?' I was like, 'I don't care, we're putting it out!' So I had to finish the record and I never really got round to it, because I was touring around, then I was promoting I Will Never (sic), then I started to shoot Fifty Shades (of Grey), then I started to shoot Southpaw, then... personally, things didn't go to plan.

"I was in a moment in my life where I knew that if I walked into the recording studio, you're not gonna get the best work out of me. So I'm not gonna waste people's money and time to do something that I know I'm probably not gonna like when I am in a good place. And that... is the truth."

When asked about the songs she created with Harris, she replies, "You'll never hear 'em... They're great tunes. But it's OK, we can make greater tunes... we have made greater tunes."

During the interview, Ora refused to confirm or deny if she was still in her on/off relationship with Ricky Hilfiger, the son of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. Harris is now dating Taylor Swift.
