Reese Witherspoon: 'I'm deeply embarrassed about arrest'
Reese Witherspoon has spoken out following her arrest in Georgia on Friday (19Apr13), insisting she feels "deeply embarrassed" and "very sorry" about her bad behavior.
The Legally Blonde star and her husband Jim Toth were held in Atlanta after cops pulled over their car and an altercation ensued. Toth was charged with driving while intoxicated, while Witherspoon was booked for disorderly conduct after getting into an argument with the arresting officer.
The pair was briefly jailed before being released on bond, and now
Witherspoon has apologized for her "disrespectful" behavior towards
the police.
In a statement, she says, "Out of respect for the ongoing legal
situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported
right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many
and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was
definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband,
but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was
just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and
I'm very sorry for my behavior."
The mom-of-three refused to allow the incident stop her from
appearing in public - she stepped back into the spotlight at the
New York premiere of her film Mud on Sunday night (21Apr13).
The actress walked the red carpet and posed for pictures with her
co-star Matthew McConaughey, but refused to answer questions from
reporters.
Witherspoon's mugshot has since surfaced online, showing the newly
brunette star sporting a wry smile with her eyes shut.
A hearing into the case is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on
Monday (22Apr13).
