Red carpet cancelled at Daniel Radcliffe premiere over crowd control risk

A red carpet event before a screening of Daniel Radcliffe's new film What If in Mexico was cancelled after fans showed up in droves.

The Harry Potter star was due to walk the red carpet at a local shopping mall in Mexico City on Thursday (31Jul14), but an unexpected number of fans came to greet him, and officials grew concerned over crowd control.

Mexico City's civil protection agency ordered bosses at movie distribution company Diamond Films Mexico, who organised the event, to shut down the red carpet.

A representative for Diamond Films says, "We appreciate the response and enthusiasm for this event. Sorry, but this decision is out of our control."

The screening of What If, which also stars Adam Driver and Zoe Kazan, went ahead as scheduled.
