Rebel Wilson making West End debut in Guys & Dolls
Rebel Wilson is set to make her debut in London's West End in classic musical Guys & Dolls.
The Pitch Perfect actress will replace Samantha Spiro in the leading role of nightclub performer Miss Adelaide, the fiancee of gambler Nathan Detroit, for a limited run between 28 June and 21 August (16).
"Proud to announce that I will be joining the West End cast of GUYS
& DOLLS for 8 weeks only at the Phoenix Theatre, playing Miss
Adelaide!" Rebel announced on Twitter on Tuesday (24May16). "So
excited to be making my West End debut in this classic
musical."
She had previously teased that she had some big news to share with
fans on Sunday, tweeting, "I have some exciting news to announce
next week for all my British fans x (and those who can get their
a**es to London!)"
The production, about gangsters in New York and a love story
between gambler Sky Masterson and missionary Sarah Brown, first
premiered in 1950 and has been revived many times. The current
London revival opened last year and recently transferred to the
Phoenix Theatre. British stage stars Nigel Lindsay and Oliver
Tompsett will star alongside Rebel as Nathan and Sky
respectively.
Rebel isn't the only celebrity who has been in the classic musical
- both Imelda Staunton and 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski have played
Miss Adelaide in the past, while Ewan McGregor and former The O.C.
star Peter Gallagher have portrayed Sky, and Bob Hoskins, Nathan
Lane, and Patrick Swayze have stepped into the role of Nathan.
A film version of the musical was released in 1955 starring Marlon
Brando and Frank Sinatra.
