Rae Sremmurd's Slim Jimmy undergoes surgery after stage fall
Rae Sremmurd rapper Slim Jimmy is recovering after undergoing surgery on the leg he sliced open during a stage fall at New York's Governors Ball music festival on Friday (05Jun15).
The No Flex Zone hitmakers were performing their song Unlock The Swag on the first day of the three-day festival when Slim Jimmy jumped up on a speaker and lost his balance.
He fell on top of a large light fixture, smashing the glass, which
left him with a large gash across his thigh, but instead of cut
short the set, the rapper encouraged his bandmate and brother, Swae
Lee, to continue with the show.
Slim Jimmy was taken by ambulance to a local hospital straight
after the Randall's Island gig, where medics removed the broken
glass from his leg and cleaned up the wound.
He subsequently underwent surgery and Lee updated fans about his
brother's condition later on Friday (05Jun15), by sharing two
photos of Slim Jimmy on the ambulance stretcher, one with the open
wound and another with his leg in bandages.
In one caption, he wrote, "@jxmmis is doing ok thanks to all the
fans", while the second reads: "@jxmmis just underwent successful
surgery to close his wound after slipping off the speaker at the
Governors Ball and falling into a glass spotlight front stage. He
didn't break anything and will be fully recovered asap. Jxmmi only
had one comment to the fans "#SremmLife (sic)".
Governors Ball organisers also issued a statement following the
incident, writing, "After suffering an injury, Slim Jimmy was taken
immediately to a nearby hospital where he's in stable condition.
The safety of our artists and visitors is our number one priority
and our medical team was able to address this issue quickly and
effectively."
