The creator of hit teen drama Pretty Little Liars has clarified reports suggesting the series will end after its seventh season, insisting her comments were misunderstood.

The TV thriller is currently in the midst of its sixth run, and I. Marlene King appeared to reveal to Variety.com she will be bringing the storyline to an end after just one more season.

"I think that this story when we're back will end next year at the end of season seven," she told the publication.

When asked if she "definitely" wants to wrap for good after one more run, King replied, "Correct", but now she is backtracking.

King took to Twitter.com on Wednesday (23Dec15) to assure fans she wasn't done with Pretty Little Liars, claiming she was only referring a plotline which unfolds in season six.

"I did not say PLL will end," she continued. "Just sayin 4 real (sic)."

The series, which launched in 2010, is loosely based on the book franchise of the same name by Sara Shepard and follows a group of girlfriends who drift apart after one of their pals goes missing.

Pretty Little Liars stars Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario and Shay Mitchell.

King is already working on her next adaptation for ABC, the same network behind Pretty Little Liars - she recently completed production on the pilot episode of Famous in Love, starring actress Bella Thorne. The series is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Rebecca Serle.
