Police called after One Direction fans cause chaos at Los Angeles cinema

Police were called to a Los Angeles cinema on Saturday (03Aug13) when eager One Direction fans stormed the theater in a bid to see the band's new movie This Is Us.

Hundreds of devotees turned out for the advance screening of the film, which follows the boyband on tour, at The Grove's Pacific Theatres, but many were turned away due to the event's popularity.

When fans who missed out later discovered there were available seats in the cinema, they swamped the building in a bid to gain access, prompting terrified staff to call for police reinforcements.

Cinema-goer Lizette Van Patten tells the Los Angeles Times, "(The fans) charged and went straight past the ticket takers for the doors of the actual theater screaming, 'Let us in! Let us in!' It took about a half an hour before a police car came with two policemen in it. They started calming kids down and shoving them outside. I've been to plenty of premieres and have seen people go crazy over Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise, but nothing like this."

This Is Us hits cinemas later this month (Aug13).
