Peaches Geldof apologizes for naming Ian Watkins accomplices
Peaches Geldof has publicly apologized for naming the co-defendants of disgraced singer Ian Watkins in a Twitter.com post.
The Lostprophets frontman appeared at Cardiff Crown Court in Wales on Tuesday (26Nov13) and shocked fans by pleading guilty to a number of sickening offenses, included the attempted rape of a baby.
Watkins was in the dock alongside two female defendants - the
mothers of the two children abuse by the rocker - and they also
pleaded guilty to a number of charges.
The pair remained anonymous to protect the identity of Watkins'
young victims - but British socialite Geldof took to Twitter on
Thursday (28Nov13) and named the two women.
The offending tweet was later deleted, and following a warning from
Britain's Attorney General that identifying sex abuse victims is
illegal, Geldof took to her social media account once again to
apologize.
In a series of posts ,she writes, "I deleted my tweets... and
apologize for any offense caused as at the time of tweeting (I) had
only seen everyone tweeting the names at me so had assumed as they
were also up on news websites and the crown courts (sic) public
file that they had been released for public knowledge. Will check
my facts before tweeting next time. Apologies and lesson
learned."
Watkins and his co-defendants are due to be sentenced on 18
December (13).
