Actor Paul Rudd is nursing a sore throat after screaming in excitement as his beloved Kansas City Royals beat the Baltimore Orioles to advance to the World Series baseball championships on Wednesday (15Oct14).

The This Is 40 star, who was raised in Kansas City and graduated from the University of Kansas, was among the fans in the stands at the Royals' Kauffman Stadium in Missouri as the home team clinched the title in the American League Championship Series by winning the game 2-1.

The Royals will now compete with the winner of the San Francisco Giants/St. Louis Cardinals series in the prestigious World Series for the first time in 29 years.

Rudd celebrated the victory by rushing the field with other superfans after Wednesday's game and he admitted his sporting excitement had cost him his voice.

He told local news station KMBC, "I've lost my voice.... It was amazing. This entire town feels it."

Rudd then jokingly invited fellow Royals fans to continue the celebrations at his mother's place nearby, quipping, "I'm gonna be partying at my mum's house! Party at my mum's, man! She's out of town, I got a keg. It's gonna be sweet! Five dollar cover!"
