One Direction star in special edition of U.K. comic
One Direction have been immortalised in cartoon form for a special edition of beloved U.K. comic the Beano.
The What Makes You Beautiful hitmakers appear in a celebration issue marking the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day, an annual televised appeal for Britain's Comic Relief charity, on 15 March (13).
The pop stars are joined by fellow British acts Jessie J and Olly
Murs, as well as former Doctor Who star David Tennant, in the
special issue, which features celebrities helping regular Beano
characters Dennis the Menace and others put on a charity show.
Price Tag hitmaker Jessie J, who will shave her head on live TV for
the charity next month (Mar13), performs a duet with character
Minnie the Minx, while a cartoon teacher swoons over One Direction
in the special issue, guest-edited by British funnyman Harry
Hill.
One Direction say in a statement, "We've grown up with the magazine
so now to actually appear in it with Dennis and Gnasher
(characters) themselves is incredible."
Mike Stirling, editor-in-chief of The Beano and BeanoMax, added,
"It was brilliant fun imagining how Jessie, Olly, David and 1D
would interact with our mischievous characters and I hope they
enjoy the results as much our readers and their fans will."
One Direction's single for the charity, One Way Or Another (Teenage
Kicks), hit the top of the U.K. charts over the weekend (23Feb13)
with all proceeds from sales benefiting Comic Relief.
The special edition Beano goes on sale on 6 March (13) and the Red
Nose Day charity drive will be televised in the U.K. next month
(15Mar13).
