One Direction mania takes over London at film premiere
Boy band One Direction brought the center of London to a standstill on Tuesday evening (20Aug13) as they launched their new tour film 1D: This Is Us in Leicester Square.
Band members Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson walked the red carpet at the Empire cinema as more than 70,000 fans screamed out their names.
The group, which came together on U.K. talent show The X Factor in
2010, teamed up with documentarian Morgan Spurlock - the man behind
the films Supersize Me and Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? -
to make the new movie about life on the road.
Simon Cowell, who created the band, joined celebrities like Ronnie
Wood, Little Mix, JLS and Lily Cooper at the premiere, and told
reporters he "felt like a father" to the bandmates, referencing the
fact he's about to become a real-life first-time dad.
The music and TV mogul, who was joined by ex-girlfriends Mezhgan
Hussainy and Sinitta on the red carpet, boasted about how proud he
was of the group and the movie, adding, "I always dreamed when I
was kid one day I could produce a movie, so this is fantastic. It's
the first one and hopefully won't be the last... It was an
incredible experience.
"Anyone who wants to know what it's like to be in a band needs to
watch this movie."
Director Spurlock was also at the big event and admitted it was
"the greatest movie premiere I have ever been to in my life".
