One Direction mania grabs New York
An estimated 18,000 One Direction fans brought New York's Rockefeller Plaza to a standstill on Friday morning (23Aug13) for the boy band's performance on breakfast show Today.
Devotees camped out for several nights and took over three city blocks to catch a glimpse of the British pop stars, who made their U.S. TV debut on Today in 2012 and have performed on the show twice before.
Today show host Matt Lauer called the crowd "massive" and added,
"If you are still thinking about coming in to see One Direction,
head in the other direction," while colleague Al Roker called the
gathering "the biggest concert ever".
During an interview on the show, Zayn Malik again confirmed reports
of his engagement to Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, stating,
"There's not much to say, we're engaged, we're really happy."
