Nina Dobrev to examine Flatliners in reboot
Actress Nina Dobrev is in talks to join Ellen Page in the forthcoming remake of supernatural thriller Flatliners.
Swedish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev, who directed the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie, signed on the project in 2013, and in October (15), it was announced he had found his leading lady in Page.
Now former The Vampire Diaries star Dobrev has been tapped to
co-star as Marlo, an overachieving medical student, according to
Deadline.com.
Mexican actor Diego Luna has also lined up to feature in the
planned revamp.
The project is based on Joel Schumacher's 1990 film, which featured
then-couple Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland as medical students
dabbling with the afterlife through a series of near-death
experiences. William Baldwin and Kevin Bacon also co-starred, while
Michael Douglas served as co-producer.
Douglas will return to produce the reboot, which has been penned by
Source Code screenwriter Ben Ripley.
A release date for the new Flatliners has yet to be announced.
Dobrev has been keeping busy since exiting hit TV drama series The
Vampire Diaries following its sixth season last year (15). She
recently wrapped independent comedy Crash Pad, in which she
co-stars with Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor Domhnall Gleeson,
while she is currently filming alongside Vin Diesel in his xXx
sequel, xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage.
The newly-single beauty, who split from her actor boyfriend Austin
Stowell in February (16), is also set to feature in another
independent project, drama Arrivals, with Game of Thrones star
Maisie Williams and Hugo's Asa Butterfield.
