Nina Dobrev confirms The Vampire Diaries return

Actress Nina Dobrev has confirmed she'll be returning to TV drama The Vampire Diaries for the show's upcoming series finale.

The 28-year-old quit the show at the end of its sixth season, but she'll be back as Elena for the last ever episode.

Nina has announced the news via Instagram with a photo of her finale script and the caption: "I know it's Thursday, but this is not a TBT (Throw Back Thursday). #BackOnSet #TVDForever."

Executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have both released statements about Nina's return, with Plec telling TVLine.com, "I'm thrilled to bring this show to an end the way we always intended - with Nina back to help us say goodbye."

Kevin adds, "I'm so excited to have Nina back to ensure our farewell episode is truly epic!"

Dobrev and her castmates are currently filming the final episode in Atlanta, Georgia. It will air on 10 March (17).
