Mariah Carey's rapper/actor husband Nick Cannon is set to be honoured in California for his career achievements and his work with children's charities.

The America's Got Talent host will be feted at the 2012 Common Sense Media Awards in San Francisco on Wednesday (25Apr12). The honours are handed out annually to celebrities and dignitaries who recognise the challenges of raising children in a digital world.

In a post on Twitter.com, an excited Cannon writes, "Honored to receive an award from @CommonSenseNews this week for my efforts as an entertainer and advocate!"

Cannon, who is a father to twins with Carey, recently flew in to meet politicians in Washington, D.C. and voice his support for a new bill which aims to increase internet privacy laws to protect children.

Fellow honourees at the 2012 Common Sense Media Awards include Disney singer/actress Bridgit Claire Mendler, writer/filmmaker Jean Kilbourne and director Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
