Miley Cyrus pays homeless friend's legal fees
Miley Cyrus has offered to pay the legal fees for a homeless youth she took to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (24Aug14) as he turns himself in to police for violating his probation.
Jesse Helt hit headlines on Sunday when he accepted Cyrus' Video of the Year award on behalf of all homeless people across the nation.
It later emerged that a warrant was out for Helt's arrest in his
native Oregon because he violated his probation stemming from a
burglary in 2010.
Helt turned himself in to the police on Thursday (28Aug14) and was
released after posting a $2,500 bail, and his mother Linda has now
confirmed Cyrus has offered to cover all the legal costs.
The singer's pal Trevor Neilson tells the Associated Press, "Jesse
Helt turned himself in.. to Polk County authorities to address his
outstanding legal issues... Miley Cyrus will be assisting him with
this process, and they both are committed to working to help the
other 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness in America each
year."
Following the burglary in 2010, Helt was convicted of criminal
mischief and criminal trespass, and in 2011 he broke his probation
by failing to take a drug test, communicate with his probation
officer or complete his community service.
Helt is due back before a judge in September (14).
