Miley Cyrus applauds Disney's creation of first same-sex couple
Actresses Miley Cyrus and Evan Rachel Wood have applauded writers at Disney Channel sitcom Good Luck Charlie for creating the TV network's first same-sex couple.
The family-friendly show's fourth and final season will feature a character with two lesbian moms when it premieres next year (14), and a spokesperson for the company tells TVGuide.com, "This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors.
"Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be
relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect
themes of diversity and inclusiveness."
Now gay rights advocate Cyrus, who got her start on the channel's
hit series Hannah Montana, has praised TV chiefs for taking a step
in the right direction.
In a post on Twitter.com, she wrote, "I commend Disney for making
this step into the light of this generation. They control… so much
of what kids think! Life isn't bright sets & wardrobe & kids
becoming superstars! This is INSPIRING".
Meanwhile, The Ides of March star Wood, who is bisexual, posted a
link to the news on her social networking account and added, "Hell
yea."
