Miley Cyrus and Scarlett Johansson named Variety's Power of Women honorees
Miley Cyrus, Scarlett Johansson, and director Ava Duvernay will be among the honorees at the upcoming Variety Power of Women celebration in Los Angeles.
Oscar winner Dame Helen Mirren and Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox will also be applauded for their philanthropy at the event.
The causes supported by the celebrities include pop superstar
Miley's Happy Hippie Foundation, which she founded in 2014 to help
vulnerable youths, including the homeless and those in the lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, and the National
Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, which Cox has helped raise
awareness for since finding fame on the hit prison drama.
Marchesa fashion designer and co-founder Georgina Chapman, the wife
of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, will also be a guest of honor. She
will be presented with the Moroccanoil Inspiration to Action
award.
The Power of Women ceremony, presented by officials at Lifetime
Television, will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons hotel
on 14 October (16).
A statement released by Claudia Eller, Variety co-editor-in-chief,
reads: "For the past 8 years, Variety has had the honor and
pleasure of identifying leading women in entertainment who are
dedicated to improving the community through the worthy causes they
support. We are so pleased that once again our amazing partner
Lifetime will join us to celebrate the achievements of our
outstanding honorees."
Salma Hayek, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey, and Anna Kendrick were
celebrated at last year's (15) Los Angeles event, while Lupita
Nyong'o and Julianne Moore were feted at a bash in New York, which
took place in April (16).
