Meek Mill's New Year's Eve gig in Las Vegas postponed
Meek Mill has officially pulled out of plans to ring in 2016 with his girlfriend Nicki Minaj in Las Vegas after probation officials banned him from leaving Pennsylvania.
The rapper violated the terms of his parole in a six-year-old drug and gun case earlier this month (Dec15) by repeatedly changing his court-approved travel schedule, and accompanying Nicki to the American Music Awards in Los Angeles in November (15) without the permission of his probation officer.
A Philadelphia judge set sentencing for February (16), while
ordering Meek not to perform any shows or leave Pennsylvania.
As a result, the hip-hop star has been left with no choice but to
scrap a show in Sin City on Thursday (31Dec15).
"Following the recent Pennsylvania court ruling, Meek Mill's
scheduled New Year's Eve performance at Drai's Nightclub at The
Cromwell in Las Vegas has been postponed until further notice," a
representative for the club tells Billboard.com. "Headliner Nicki
Minaj, who is also slated to appear that evening, will perform as
scheduled."
Nicki had tried to vouch for her man in a bid to keep him out of
jail by testifying in his defence during the recent probation
hearing, during which she insisted he is a new man.
"He's not perfect but I can't believe how much he's changed," she
said, before telling the court she plans to help her boyfriend get
organised and fulfil his community service requirements.
Meek also took the stand and broke down as he pleaded for
leniency.
"I'm not a gangsta," he declared. "I'm not a criminal... I have my
queen, Nicki, now. I'm trying to do better and feel like I can be
the best rapper out there."
It won't be a fun New Year for Meek as not only will he have to
celebrate without his girlfriend, but the threat of jail time hangs
over him if the judge overseeing his case decides to make an
example of him.
