Matt Damon: 'Ben Affleck is doing great'

Matt Damon is confident his best pal Ben Affleck is doing "great" following the shock news of his split from wife Jennifer Garner.

The Argo star stepped out with Damon on Monday (10Aug15) for his first red carpet appearance since he and Garner announced their divorce in June (15) to attend the Los Angeles premiere of the TV series Project Greenlight, which they produce.

Affleck, who wore his wedding ring, avoided the press and let his pal do most of the talking during the event, but Damon insisted his longtime friend is alright, telling reporters, "He's great, he's great. He's got a big smile on his face."

Speaking about Affleck's upcoming birthday on Saturday (15Aug15), Damon said, "I wish him well, but he's 43, it's kind of like, meh. What is 43? It's not 40, it's not 45, it's 43. It's a forgettable birthday."

Affleck and Garner were married for 10 years and have three children.
