Mark Wahlberg joins Transformers 4

Mark Wahlberg has been unveiled as the new star of the next Transformers film.

The Boogie Nights actor is reteaming with his Pain and Gain director Michael Bay for the fourth installment of the action franchise, which has previously starred Shia LaBeouf - and the moviemaker is thrilled his pal is onboard.

Bay says, "Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I'm so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy."

Transformers 4 is set for release in 2014.
