Madame Tussauds bosses insist bad lighting was to blame for the outrage following their Beyonce waxwork reveal.
Fans were outraged when the new look-alike was unveiled on Wednesday (19Jul17) in New York, with many accusing wax artists of whitewashing the new mom.
Devotees, known as the Beyhive, reposted the image and suggested the blonde figure, wearing a blue sequined one-piece, fishnet stockings and thigh-high boots looked nothing like the superstar.
One fan wrote: "This is a melanin-defunct, lipless, thickless Bey," while another angry fan tweeted: "Dear @MadameTussauds Beyonce is a BLACK woman, not a White one so please remove that hideous Wax figure."
Others suggested the wax likeness actually resembled actresses Julia Stiles and Lindsay Lohan, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, and Shakira, with one Beyonce follower adding: "Why does this Beyonce wax figure look like Lindsay Lohan if she were an Instagram model."
Another fan even suggested the waxwork artists had never seen Beyonce.
Madame Tussauds bosses have now responded to the backlash, blaming poor lighting for upsetting the fans.
"Our talented team of sculptors takes every effort to ensure we accurately color match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted," a statement reads. "Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the color of our wax figures."
