Lil Wayne fans launch petition for album release
Fans of rapper Lil Wayne have launched an online petition in a bid to convince label bosses to release his long-delayed album, Tha Carter V.
The Lollipop hitmaker took to Twitter.com on Thursday (04Dec14) to reveal the album was no longer set for release next week (09Dec14) and blamed his longtime mentor and Cash Money Records boss Bryan 'Birdman' Williams for the hold-up.
In a message on the social networking site, he wrote, "To all my
fans, I want u to know that my album won't and hasn't been released
bekuz (because) Baby (Birdman) & (record label) Cash Money Rec.
refuse to release it (sic).
"This is not my fault. I am truly and deeply sorry to all my fans
but most of all to myself and my family for putting us in this
situation."
Lil Wayne also expressed his desire to be released from the label,
but his fans have since launched a campaign on ipetition.com in a
bid to hear his new material before a potential legal battle
begins, according to AllHipHop.com.
The petition post reads, "We would like to take the time to request
that Baby & Cash Money Records consider releasing Lil Wayne aka Lil
Tunechi new album for the holidays (sic).
"We the fans have truly been looking forward to a new release and
hope you will reconsider your decision not to release it. Thank you
so much in advance for your consideration."
The petition aims to attract 1,000 signatures, but had scored just
over 60 as WENN went to press.
