Liev Schreiber wishes ex Naomi Watts happy birthday after split

Naomi Watts' former partner Liev Schreiber reportedly wished his former "sweetheart" a happy birthday on Wednesday (28Sep16).

The pair announced their separation on Monday (26Sep16), but as the actress turned 48 on Wednesday, the Ray Donovan actor was one of the many who shared his sentiments on The Impossible actress' Instagram account.

Naomi, who has been pictured filming her new Netflix series Gypsy in New York this week, shared a picture of herself as a blonde-haired baby in a vintage pram.

"Another birthday!! #eek But I think I'm younger than this #vintagestroller?? Not quite sure what's happening here...," she captioned the photo. Describing the retro look of the throwback snap, she added, "#eek #70's #photoop #oldschool #raisedbyartists."

Former partner Liev reportedly posted an affectionate, "Happy Birthday Sweetheart," comment on the snap, one of several hundred comments left for the star.

The couple confirmed the sad news on Monday, less than a week after the shock split of actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Naomi and Liev broke the news of their separation in a statement which read: "Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple.

"It is with great love, respect and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship. While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy."

The pair were together for 11 years, but had never wed. The former couple have two sons Alexander, nine, and seven-year-old Samuel together.
