Liam Payne debuts first solo material

Liam Payne has released a snippet of the new material he is working on while on hiatus from One Direction.

"Little song I wrote for fun yesterday," he captioned the clip on Instagram.com on Saturday (16Jan16), sending his fans into a frenzy.

Debuting just a few bars of the R&B style track in the black and white, 15-second video, Liam raps while sporting a freshly shaved head and wearing a hoodie.

Editors at Entertainment Weekly report the track is likely the result of the singer's studio sessions with rapper/producers Juicy J and TM88. Liam was recording with the pair in Los Angeles earlier this month (Jan16), with Juicy J posting snippets of their studio time on his Snapchat account.

While he has spent time in the studio without his bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, no plans have been discussed about the One Direction star releasing a solo track or album, editors at Billboard.com report.

Liam and Juicy J were first spotted in the studio together in January, 2015, when the rapper posted a photo of them on Instagram with the caption, "We working!"

Then, in December last year (15), Juicy replied to a fan on Twitter.com and revealed his work with Liam would be "coming soon". It's unclear whether the song will feature on an upcoming solo release by Liam, or if it's set to feature on Juicy's next album, which is due for release later this year (16).

One Direction are currently on an 18-month hiatus, and Liam recently put an end to rumors that the band would be splitting up once the break is over. "Oh, no no no," he told reporters at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday (15Jan16) who asked if the band was finished. "No, we just got nominated for two BRITs."

Liam also revealed that the door is open for former band member Zayn Malik to return once One Direction reunite next year (17). "Who knows?" he said. "He's just doing his thing, he's fine. Of course, I love Zayn he's great."
