Lady Gaga to be honored for music education efforts
Lady Gaga is set to be honored by bosses at the Grammy Museum for her dedication to music education.
The Born This Way star is set to receive the Jane Ortner Artist Award in recognition for her passion and dedication to education through the arts during the 2016 Jane Ortner Education Award Luncheon on 4 April (16).
"The enormous impact Lady Gaga has had on artists and fans began
with a strong educational foundation," executive director of the
Grammy Museum Bob Santelli said in a statement. "Her career
trajectory, marked by extraordinary talent and creativity, is one
of the most inspiring stories in music."
Gaga will also take the stage to perform at the Beverly Hills
event, as will John Legend, who received the inaugural prize in
2014.
The pop star recently landed another Grammy honor, as she was
chosen to perform a tribute to the late David Bowie during the
annual music prizegiving on 15 February (16).
She had already been asked to perform at the show, but Grammy
producers decided to change her set into a Bowie tribute following
his death last month (Jan16).
Gaga will team up with the late rock icon's former collaborator,
Nile Rodgers, who will serve as musical director for her tribute
performance at the awards show in Los Angeles.
In addition, Gaga will kick off her busy February by singing the
National Anthem at Sunday's (07Feb16) Super Bowl in Santa Clara,
California. Following in the footsteps of Whitney Houston,
Christina Aguilera and last year's (15) singer Idina Menzel, Gaga
will belt out The Star-Spangled Banner before the big football
game, and she will be joined by hearing-impaired Oscar winner
Marlee Matlin, who will perform the song in American Sign
Language.
