Lady Gaga giving song profits to sex assault charity

Lady Gaga is handing over the profits from her new anti-violence anthem to charities that help survivors of sexual assault.

The Poker Face star has teamed up with songwriting legend Diane Warren to compose new track Til It Happens To You, which features in a documentary called The Hunting Ground, about rape on college campuses.

The song is accompanied by a harrowing video, shot by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, which depicts scenes of violence against women, and Gaga hopes the project shines a light on sex attacks and the problems facing survivors.

In a series of posts on Twitter.com, she writes, "Diane Warren & I made Til It Happens To You for people all over the world who suffer from painful life experiences... We hope u feel our love & solidarity through the song & perhaps find some peace in knowing u r (you are) not alone through this film... A portion of proceeds from sales of the song will be donated to orgs (organizations) helping survivors."
