Kevin Hart has signed on to star in the upcoming remake of comedy The Great Outdoors.

The actor and comedian will take on a leading role in Universal Pictures' reboot of the 1988 movie, according to Deadline.

The original The Great Outdoors was written by John Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch, and saw John Candy play Chester 'Chet' Ripley, a Chicago family man looking to take his wife Connie (Stephanie Faracy) and sons on a lakeshore vacation. However, the holiday is upended with the surprise arrival of Connie's brother-in-law and her sister, as played by Dan Aykroyd and Annette Bening, and their twin daughters.

It grossed over $6 million in its opening weekend and had a worldwide box office gross of over nearly $44 million .

It is not yet known which character Hart will play, and no other casting details have been announced.

Universal has yet to lock down a director for the flick, but it is being scripted by Randall Green and produced by Michael De Luca. Green currently writes for the Showtime TV series Billions, and recently penned the script for Warner Bros.' upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo remake.

The project marks another collaboration between Hart and Universal, with the star previously partnering with the studio on the Ride Along movies and 2016's animated The Secret Life of Pets.

While a release date for The Great Outdoors hasn't been confirmed, Universal will no doubt want to start filming shortly, as Hart has a full slate of movies. The star has a voice role in the new Captain Underpants film, will have a major role opposite Dwayne Johnson in the reboot Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and appears alongside Bryan Cranston in Untouchable.
