Kendrick Lamar will be celebrating as he takes to the Coachella stage to close out the 2017 festival on Sunday night (23Apr17) after landing the biggest sales week on the U.S. album chart this year.

The rapper's DAMN has debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 countdown with sales of 603,000, according to Nielsen Music.

That's the biggest first week since Drake's Views opened with just over one million units last May (16).

The previous record holder for 2017’s biggest week Drake’s More Life, which debuted with 505,000 sales in March (17).

DAMN is Lamar’s third number one album, following last year’s Untitled Unmastered and 2015's To Pimp a Butterfly.

The rapper's mother is clearly a big fan of his new music - in an Instagram note he reposted on Saturday (22Apr17), she wrote: "OMG (Oh my God). This cd is bombbbbbb...! This is your best one to me, no bulls**t. Your daddy said u looked stressed out on the cover lol (laugh out loud) I said n**ga that’s the point, we always stressing him out Since a Lil boy you been a over thinker though."

She added: "Boy you can make a dog laugh... Album is bomb bomb bomb bomb!"
